The Loss of Star Trek’s Longtime Archivist. When we watch the Star Trek films and episodes, a lot of the props go by unnoticed—they've become such a part of a universe that feels real to us. But there are so many props involved in producing a single story—to say nothing of the franchise as a whole—and someone has to keep track of it all. For many years, Penny Juday did just that. Best known to Star Trek fans for her role of Beata in the first-season TNG episode "Angel One,” in which she portrayed the leader of the matriarchal planet Angel I, actress and producer Karen Montgomery passed away on December 4, 2015, at the age of 66 following a decade-long battle with breast cancer. Farewell Leonard Nimoy. He inspired generations of fans to pursue science and to take a level-headed approach to life. But on February 27, Leonard Nimoy succumbed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 83. The loss of the man who was Spock, who defined Star Trek, and who played an important role in the lives of so many is being felt around the world. We take a moment to reflect on Leonard Nimoy’s contributions and why he made a difference.

Star Trek Continues Funding Campaign Final Days. The fan-based, non-profit production Star Trek Continues is in the final days of its Kirkstarter 2.0, a campaign to fund at least two additional episodes of the series. The original goal of the campaign, which ends February 16, was to raise $100,000 to fund all aspects of their fifth and sixth episodes. Since they’ve already reached that goal there are ambitious stretch goals to build an Engineering set, a Planet Set, and to fund the creation of up to seven additional episodes. New TOS DVD Set Beams In. As CBS continues to mine the existing Star Trek catalog, a new collection of episode featuring Captain James T. Kirk will be released on March 17, 2015. Titled “Captain Kirk’s Boldest Missions,” the two-disc DVD set will include eight episodes and some extras and will sell for $16.99.
